Dara King, MD, MBA

Dara N. King, MD, MBA is the Vice Chief of Quality and Patient Safety for her Hospitalist Group. She is a native of Detroit, Michigan and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan. She earned a B.S. in Biopsychology and Cognitive Sciences. Dr. King earned her Doctor of Medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine and her MBA from Yale School of Management. She has been practicing OBGYN for over 20 years and believes that women should be treated with respect and dignity when they are dealing with their most intimate moments.

Dr. King has been working to achieve equity in maternal health and to improve pregnancy outcomes. During the pandemic, Dr. King developed The King Institute for Women, a health education firm formed to improve health outcomes for underrepresented women, particularly women of color. One of the goals of the institute is self-advocacy. She has developed a lecture talk series to discuss and simplify conversations that may be sensitive and difficult to discuss. These are “conversations women want and conversations girls need.” She has become a spokesperson for women’s health through the institute.

Being newly appointed to the Health Advisory Council for SheMatters is her most recent accomplishment. SheMatters is a pioneering digital health platform dedicated to improving maternal mortality in minority communities. This appointment aligns with her passion and purpose for improving pregnancy outcomes.

She was also recently appointed as a Board member for Project Scientist. This is an education nonprofit delivering high-quality experiences in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) to underserved and marginalized girls ages 4-18. This appointment aligns with her goals of mentorship and women of color in STEAM.

Dr. King is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. where she held a leadership position as the committee chairman of Target 2: Women’s Healthcare and Wellness that was appointed by the Vice President of her chapter. The President of her chapter later appointed her to become the chairman of the Medical Response Team that led safety efforts in response to COVID-19 and beyond the pandemic. She was both humbled and surprised to receive the Superior in Service Award for her chapter in 2022.

Dr. King is a wife and mother of two boys. Family is equally important to her as making a difference in people’s lives.
